PLP 099: Ignacio Arfeli on Patience, Plugins, and Producing Techno

Ignacio Arfeli was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There wasn’t much of a techno scene there, so he moved to the mecca for techno: Berlin. Ignacio’s music blurs the line between the techno underground and the mainstream. 2019 was a breakout year for him as he landed some of the most respected labels in techno including Kraftek, Suara, Octopus Recordings, and several more. Charlotte De Witte has frequently opened festivals with his tracks, and he has had support from Alan Fitzpatrick, Eric Pryzd, Dense & Pika, and Dj Rush.

PLP 097: Shakes on Event Promotion and the Twisted Lines Experience

Today’s guest is Yera, better known in the Atlanta techno scene as Shakes. Yera is a die-hard techno fan, fashionista and the founder of Twisted Lines. Twisted Lines began in 2018 in the alleyways of L.A., but has grown into an Atlanta-based community of techno and house music lovers who build art events inspired by the underground warehouse raves of the 90’s. Her events are much more than just themed music nights: past events have incorporated sports car collectives, art installations, and they recently closed out Atlanta’s Digital Art Week.

PLP 024: 6TH STREET Music on Dance, Music, and Marketing

In this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Richard Wang, aka 6th Street Music, a Minnesota-grown Los Angeles-based music producer and performer. In 2018, he joined the Producer Dojo and since then has had multiple original tracks featured on monthly mixtapes and even had three songs featured on NBC’s World of Dance Mixtape. His first EP, “Neon District” hit #3 Overall on Beatport, with singles hitting #1 in various genres including Trap, Dubstep, and Electronica. He recently released a new single, “Eagles,” with his girlfriend Liz Bezler who provided the vocals.

Mike Allison, also known as Captain, is a full-time DJ and producer based out of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Mike’s got over 20 years experience as a DJ and has performed alongside Skrillex, Vaski, DJ Rob Swift, and more. He’s also been using Ableton Live since version 1!

PLP 014: SUBPAC Review

Is a SUBPAC worth it? In December 2019 I purchased a SUBPAC S2 on Amazon while it was on sale. The SUBPAC is like a giant rumble pack on a videogame controller: you put it on the back of your chair and it vibrates to bass frequencies. At around $300 dollars, this is a pretty expensive piece of studio gear. In this episode of the Producer Life Podcast I’ll be sharing my thoughts after several months of use.

PLP 012: Wade Sutton from the Six-Minute Music Business Podcast (Part 2)

John Pisciotta and Wade Sutton, authors of Hacking Music. Photo by Kathy Sutton.

This is part two of my interview with Wade Sutton who runs the wildly popular Six-Minute Music Business Podcast. Wade offers incredibly practical advice for musicians in a short but entertaining format. Soooo… if you missed episode 11, please go back and listen to part one first because Wade offered some great advice on branding, using YouTube, and when you should talk about politics as a musician

PLP 009: The War of Art Book Review

In episode nine of the Producer Life Podcast I review The War of Art, a book by international best selling author Steven Pressfield. The book has over 3,000 five-star reviews on Amazon and came highly recommended by several other producers I respect. Steven also wrote the Legend of Bagger Vance, Gates of Fire, Tides of War, and dozens of others.
